Thoughts on Stewardship & Giving

About the book

Though it may be an uncomfortable subject, giving is a mandatory part of worship.  Giving is a major tenant of the Christian faith as we strive to emulate the example of a God who gave – extensively, miraculously, unconditionally - including His own flesh and blood.  In encouraging myself and my own congregation to experience the blessings of “giving back,” I have found that expanding my perspective is most helpful. I try to think of myself, not as an owner of my stuff, but as a steward of it. It is funny how, in the drive to own more possessions, they often begin to own us.  God’s resources extend beyond dollars to include time, talent, the intervention of unexpected angels, our amazing planet and every creature on it.  When we think of the vastness of God’s supply, that which we have to share is really so small, yet significant because the value is in the act of giving, not in the price tag the world places on our contribution. The spirit of generosity is the greatest gift we can give God, others and ourselves. It will change your life as it did mine.

In this book, I offer some non-denominational Bible-based devotions that may help you to think differently and more positively about your stewardship of the resources which have been entrusted to you, as well as to become a more cheerful giver.

Delightful

He led me to a place of safety; He rescued me because He delights in me. - 2 Samuel 22:20 (NLT)

It is never about what we give to God – we don’t earn His favor and can’t buy His love.  God blesses us purely because He delights in us.  It is His gift. When we give, it is in simple gratitude - a gift from our heart to touch Him in return. A gift given out of love, not obligation, delights our God and blesses us more than we can ever imagine.

For Your Tip Jar

Do something for someone today in secret, expecting nothing in return.  For example: pay for the coffee of the person behind you in the drive thru, put an anonymous note of encouragement in a coworker’s mail box, or leave a large tip for a waiter at your local café.
